Washington — The Milwaukee Brewers have only three true outfielders on their roster, but manager Craig Counsell said Tuesday he doesn't consider that a hindrance.
The Brewers went down to three outfielders Monday when they optioned Keon Broxton to Class AAA Colorado Springs and summoned third baseman/ first baseman Will Middlebrooks from that club. A July 1 assignment clause that allowed Middlebrooks to entertain offers from other major-league clubs was a big factor in that move.
That switch left the Brewers with Ryan Braun, Kirk Nieuwenhuis and Ramon Flores as the only true outfielders on their roster.
