Chicago— The Brewers' plan was to call up only two players from Class AA Biloxi, starting pitchers Jorge Lopez and Tyler Wagner. Maybe an extra reliever if necessary.
That changed when right-hander Jimmy Nelson was hit on the head by a line drive and shut down, outfielder Ryan Braun started missing time with a bad back and infielder Elian Herrera suffered a leg injury in a collision chasing a pop fly in the outfield.
So, after Biloxi's otherwise great season ended Monday night with a disappointing loss to Chattanooga in the Southern League championship finale, six players were told they were coming to join the Brewers.
