Milwaukee recalled Zack Godley from the Alternate Training Site to start today’s game on the mound in place of the injured Brett Anderson. Unfortunately for him and the Brewers, he was tagged with the loss in this one. He was only able to get through three innings before leaving the game with a finger contusion. In his first start for the Brewers, he gave up four runs, three earned. He gave up just one hit, but walked five.
The top of the second epitomized Godley’s rustiness as he had some nasty stuff, but had trouble with command. For example, after sawing off Corey Dickerson with a wicked cutter that shattered his bat on a foul ball, Godley gave him a free pass.
