MILWAUKEE -- The Brewers on Thursday established the Nellie Global Award, which will be presented annually to a Wisconsin resident who works for good on a global scale.
The award is named for the late Brewers coach, broadcaster and front-office executive Davey Nelson, who served on the board of a home for children impacted by AIDS in South Africa before he died from cancer last year. It's the latest of a series of steps by the ballclub to honor Nelson's memory.
"Through this award we are able to keep Davey's vision alive by recognizing Wisconsin residents who share the same passion he did for making an impact around the world," said Brewers vice president of business operations Rick Schlesinger.
