The Milwaukee Brewers started a four-game series with the division-rival Pittsburgh Pirates this evening at PNC Park. The Brewers got their first look at starting pitcher Jared Jones, one of the game’s top pitching prospects and one of the league’s most impressive pitchers so far this season. On the mound for Milwaukee was Joe Ross, coming off a start against the Padres where he was undone by one bad inning.
Jones came as advertised. Early on, he was baffling Brewers hitters, showcasing the stuff that has been some of the nastiest in baseball so far this season; he literally made Brice Turang fall down on a back-foot slider that was a swinging third strike.
