Brewers call up Keon Broxton as Domingo Santana goes on DL

New York — Rightfielder Domingo Santana's shoulder wasn't getting any better. Outfielder Keon Broxton was tearing it up at Class AAA Colorado Springs.

Those two factors convinced the Brewers to put Santana on the 15-day disabled list Friday and recall Broxton, who was promptly placed in center field in the starting lineup against the New York Mets.

Santana had struggled for weeks with the problem in his throwing shoulder, getting scratched several times from the lineup and mostly hitting off the bench. It bothered him primarily when he made long throws, and after Santana was scratched yet again Thursday from the home game against the Cubs, the decision was made to put him on the DL.
