Entering Thursday’s series opener at Coors Field in Colorado, Brandon Woodruff had fired off 12 consecutive starts allowing two earned runs or fewer. The Rockies ended that streak in this contest, however, and handed Woodruff his third ‘L’ of the season.
The damage came early, in the bottom of the first inning. Yonathan Daza got things rolling with a one-out single. Woody then punched out Charlie Blackmon for the second out, but (future Brewer?) Trevor Story singled to shortstop, then Ryan McMahon walked to load the bases. That brought up CJ Cron, and on a 1-1 count, he launched a 97 MPH fastball out over the fence in right field for a grand slam.
