Washington — The essence of hitting is knowing when to be aggressive and when to be patient. Cross too far over that line in any direction and you're in trouble.
Asked why he has been on such a power spree in August, Brewers leftfielder Khris Davis said he realized he had been too passive at the plate.
"I've gone back to being aggressive; that's kind of my personality," Davis said Saturday night after socking his eighth homer of August in a 6-1 loss to Washington.
How aggressive has Davis been? Manager Craig Counsell said before the game Sunday he thought Davis had hit his last four home runs on the first pitch, including a slider by otherwise unhittable Nationals right-hander Joe Ross on Saturday.
