In this Brewers rumors and news bulletin, the Milwaukee Brewers have been named as one of four teams that are best-positioned to land Boston Red Sox ace Jon Lester via trade.
According to Jon Heyman of CBS Sports, "if there are four teams considered either to be in the lead or most logical to land Lester, it may be the Brewers, Pirates and Orioles along with the presumed favorite Dodgers."
General manager Doug Melvin has been known to be selectively aggressive in the trade market, as evidenced by past moves for CC Sabathia (deadline deal) and Zack Greinke (winter deal).
Per Heyman, Milwaukee currently has "more prospects at their disposal than usual," with imposing young right-hander Jimmy Nelson potentially headlining a deal for Lester.
At this point, the market on Lester could very well come down to what the Dodgers will do. If Los Angeles is willing to part with super-prospect Joc Pederson, they will likely have the inside track in negotiations with a Red Sox team desperate for impact players in the outfield.
