Watford are closing on a deal for former West Ham forward Mauro Zarate.
Talks took place over the weekend with his club Fiorentina and the 29-year-old is looking to sign on an initial loan with view to a permanent transfer.
Zarate has made only nine appearances this season for Fiorentina but still scored four goals. The Argentine has had previous spells in England with Birmingham City, West Ham and QPR.
Watford have been encouraged to enter the bidding for Brentford striker Scott Hogan but consider the Championship club's £15m asking price too high.
