Middlesbrough's Adam Forshaw catches eye of Gareth Southgate as England manager prepares to name squad for Scotland and Spain tests

Gareth Southgate went away particularly impressed with Adam Forshaw when the interim England manager travelled to watch Middlesbrough against Bournemouth last Saturday and will continue to monitor the midfielder, Sportsmail understands.

Forshaw delivered an accomplished performance as Aitor Karanka’s side ran out 2-0 winners over Eddie Howe’s team and Southgate noted the 25-year-old’s greater impact on the game than Jack Wilshere, who he was also keeping an eye on.

Southgate has broadened his search for potential call ups ahead of internationals against Scotland and Spain and used his trip to the Riverside to run the rule over Ben Gibson, who is thought to be in contention to earn a cap, Callum Chambers and Jordan Ibe.
