Middlesbrough owner Steve Gibson is set to choose between Garry Monk and Nigel Pearson as the club’s next manager.
Sportsmail revealed on May 18 that the pair were the frontrunners for the position, which is currently occupied by Steve Agnew.
He, too, was spoken to by Gibson with a view to remaining in charge, but the chairman will now make an external appointment.
Both Pearson and Monk have been interviewed and were asked by Gibson to present their plans for the entire club, from playing staff and backroom personnel to scouting and the academy.
