Middlesbrough manager Aitor Karanka confident his job is safe despite fan unrest and a run of 10 Premier League matches without a win

Aitor Karanka believes his position as Middlesbrough boss is safe.

Sources close to the under-fire Spaniard insist that he retains the faith of chairman Steve Gibson.

Boro have not won in the Premier League since before Christmas and are now three points from safety following Saturday’s 2-0 defeat at Stoke, during which a section of supporters turned on their manager.

But Karanka will return to the club’s Rockliffe Park training base on Tuesday confident that his job is not under threat and, despite results and fan unrest, the former Real Madrid defender will not quit the Riverside.
