Middlesbrough chairman Steve Gibson suggests club will hire a new manager in the summer following Premier League relegation

Middlesbrough chairman Steve Gibson has hinted at a new managerial appointment being made this summer after revealing wholesale changes will be made at the relegated Premier League club.

Steve Agnew has won just one game from 10 attempts as head coach since succeeding Aitor Karanka in March, failing to prevent Boro making an immediate return to the Championship.

Although Gibson refused to commit to details in an interview with BBC Tees, he did confirm preparations were already under way to 'smash' the division in 2017-18, citing the club's financial muscle as a reason for confidence.
