Middlesbrough boss Michael Carrick has said forward Matt Crooks is going to have talks with a club in the United States.
The 30-year-old has scored 20 goals in 102 league games for Boro since joining from Rotherham in July 2021.
"Every situation is different, and for this one it's an opportunity for him and his family, one he wanted to explore," Carrick told Boro's website.
"We respected that, and, while it's not done, we'll see how it develops."
The US club in question has not been disclosed.
Crooks has made 31 appearances for Boro this season, managing five goals, but has only scored twice since the start of October.
