SMYRNA -- La Vergne might have thrown the first blow, but Smyrna and senior tailback Casey Perkins administered the remainder of the punishment in a 38-20 whipping of rival La Vergne on Friday night.
After La Vergne scored on its opening drive and executed a perfect onside quick, the Bulldogs defense stiffened and they reeled off 38 unanswered points at Robert Raikes Stadium.
As for the rivalry, Smyrna has now won 29 of the 30 games played between the two schools.
"There was no way, no way, we were going to lose to La Vergne," said Perkins, who rushed for 162 yards and three touchdowns in just less than three quarters.
