JOHNS ISLAND, S.C. – Middle Tennessee closed out the first day of the Briar's Creek Invitational Monday evening at 17-over par through 36 holes after rounds of 7-over 295 and 10-over 298.

The Blue Raiders sit within 10 strokes of the five teams directly ahead of them – four of which are ranked in the Top 50 nationally – in No. 27 Illinois (+7), Kansas (+8), No. 20 Furman (+13), No. 50 Penn State (+14), No. 45 East Carolina (+14).

"We definitely had stretches of really good golf today, but we got a little aggressive on some putts," head coach Chris Adams said.
