ROCK HILL, S.C. – Middle Tennessee cut what had been a 19-point deficit to four in the final minute, but Winthrop held on for a 76-68 win in its homecoming game Saturday. Camryn Weston scored 11 of his team-leading 14 points in the second half to lead the comeback attempt.
The Blue Raiders outscored the Eagles 27-19 over the final 10 and a half minutes, but it was not enough to overcome their slow start. MTSU was 15-for-29 from the free throw line, including a six-of-15 performance in the first half. In hostile territory, the Blue Raiders shot 1-for-17 from 3-point range after halftime, but 15 second-half offensive rebounds helped the visitors keep the pressure on.
