TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Sophomore women's golfer Sophie Burks made a valiant run in the 103rd Women's Southern Golf Association Amateur Championship last week, finishing off the championship on Friday with a runner-up finish at NorthRiver Yacht Club in Tuscaloosa.
Burks fired a 3-over 74 to land in a tie for fifth in Monday's opening round before moving on to match play. As the week wore on she stayed strong with four consecutive match play wins to move into the championship round.
The Montgomery, Ala., native's wins on the week included a 1-up win against Stetson's Sarah May, a 4&3 win against Mississippi State commit Ally Williams and a 1-up win against former Montevallo golfer Arin Eddy to move into the semi-finals where she would meet Louisville golfer Delaney Shah.
