Pugh's first win of the event came on Friday against Thias Minet of Lipscomb by a score of 6-3, 6-4, followed by a victory over Belmont's Gibson Parker that afternoon, 6-4, 7-6 (8-6). That momentum carried over to Saturday morning singles action, as Pugh bested Lipscomb's George Wong in straight sets, 6-4, 6-3.
Negre also got off to a great start this weekend, dominating his opening match against Wong, 6-1, 6-2.
