An early timeout by Blackman boys coach Barry Wortman did the trick for his Blaze in the first round of the Region 4-AAA tournament on Saturday night.
Blackman (29-90) and Shelbyville (11-17) were tied at 5-5 with 6:36 left when Wortman took the timeout after his team failed to cover a wide-open Eagles shooter. The Blaze responded with a 20-5 run to close the quarter, setting the tone for a 71-26 blowout at Blackman High School.
"We came out to a slow start and we didn't have a lot of energy," said Blackman senior forward Christian Dewitt.
