Blackman survived a horrible first half, but it wasn't enough to offset the play of Memphis East Friday in the semifinals of the TSSAA Class BlueCross Championships.
The Blaze managed just three first-half field goals, but made 12 of 14 free throws to stay within 28-20 at halftime. However, East persevered and held off a valiant Blaze comeback to hold on for a 46-41 victory at Murphy Center.
Blackman, which ended the season with its first loss at 33-1, hit just 3 of 10 from the field in the first half as they struggled to get into their offense as they were stymied by East's aggressive defense.
