LONDON, England – Former University of Akron All-American pole vaulter Shawn Barber came up short in his quest to defend his IAAF World Championship finishing eighth in the championship round of the IAAF World Track and Field Championships on Tuesday, Aug. 8, in London, England.
Ranked seventh in the world in the latest rankings, Barber placed eighth in the field clearing 18-6.50 (5.65m).
After failing to surpass the opening bar of 18-0.50 (5.50m) on his first run at the height, Barber successful bested the mark on his second attempt.
