Cleveland, Ohio -- Today the Mid-American Conference announced that Akron’s Isaiah Johnson and Keith Dambrot have earned top honors for the 2016-17 men’s basketball season. Johnson was named Player of the Year, while Dambrot was tabbed Coach of the Year. The Player of the Year and Coach of the Year awards were voted on by a 37-member panel made up of News Media Association members and the league’s 12 head coaches.
For the second straight season, Dambrot earned the league’s highest coaching honor. He is one of two coaches from Akron to receive the MAC recognition and is the only Zips’ leader to win the award three times (2013, 2016, 2017) – Former Zips' head coach Dan Hipsher garnered the award in 1998.
