The Central Michigan Chippewas had no problems with the Northern Illinois Huskies as the Chips gained 615 yards and averaged 8.2 yards per play in the blowout win Saturday afternoon.
CMU (6-4, 4-2 MAC) scored early and often against the Huskies, punching in three first quarter touchdowns and getting out to a 21-3 lead after just 15 minutes.
Marcus Childers started the game for the Huskies (3-6, 2-3 MAC) and, after gaining just 13 yards on NIU’s first few drives, was replaced by Ross Bowers. Bowers was able to spark the offense some, leading the Huskies to a field goal on his first drive and then scoring the lone Huskie TD - a 14-yard pass to Spencer Tears - on his third drive.
