It's a big pickup for Michigan for both the class of 2019 and beyond. Here are five things you need to know about Hinton's commitment to Michigan.
1. He's one of the top 2019 recruits
Hinton is a highly-touted recruit and is actually the second-highest recruit Jim Harbaugh has landed at Michigan. Hinton is the No. 9 overall recruit in the country according to the 247Sports composite, but Rivals has him at No. 3 overall. He's the second-best player from Georgia on 247Sports and the top strongside DE. While that standing can change as the recruiting process goes on, Hinton has the makings of a top defensive lineman. He checks in at 6-foot-4, 265-pounds.
2. Michigan Beat Out Everyone
This isn't a surprise, since Hinton is a top 10 recruit, but the Wolverines beat out everyone to land Hinton. He had 23 offers, but the reality is that every team in the nation would love to land Hinton. The Sun Belt and MAC schools simply aren't going to waste their time by offering Hinton. The final six for Hinton were Michigan, Ohio State, Georgia, Stanford, North Carolin and Clemson. He also had offers from the likes of Alabama.

3. His bloodlines are strong
The Hintons are a football family. His father, Chris Hinton Sr., was the No. 4 overall pick in the 1983 NFL Draft out of Northwestern. He was a three-time All-Pro in his 13 NFL seasons with the Colts, Falcons and Vikings. He was actually the player the Broncos drafted in 1983 before trading to the Colts for one John Elway. The 7-time Pro Bowler was also traded as part of the Jeff George deal between the Falcons and Colts.
Hinton also has a younger brother named Myles. The younger brother, a class of 2020 recruit, is actually bigger than Chris. Myles checks in at 6-foot-6, 300-pounds and is an offensive tackle. He's already expressed serious interest in Michigan and his brother's commitment should only help the Wolverines' chances. Michigan is the early front-runner, but he does hold offers from schools like Alabama, Florida and Georgia.

4. It's another key win in the state of Georgia for Jim Harbaugh
Georgia head coach Kirby Smart and Harbaugh haven't always been on the best of terms about satellite camps in Georgia and that relationship isn't helped by Michigan poaching top talent from the Bulldogs' backyard. Last year, Michigan nabbed five-star DT Aubrey Solomon and three-star RB Kurt Taylor. In the current cycle, Michigan has commitments from four-star cornerback Myles Sims, four-star linebacker Otis Reese and three-star running back Christian Turner.
5. The 2019 DL class is a strong one
Michigan has only four recruits pledged for the class of 2019, but two of them are five-star defensive linemen. Hinton is joined by five-star end Stephen Herron Jr., who committed to Michigan on July 29th. Herron is the No. 4 weakside DE prospect, the No. 1 player from the state of Kentucky and the No. 33 player overall. That Herron-Hinton tandem is an incredible one and the Wolverines might not be done adding defensive line talent.
