Wolverines to Battle MSU for Iron D Trophy Friday at Joe Louis Arena

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The fifth-ranked University of Michigan ice hockey team (16-3-4, 7-1-2-1 Big Ten) takes on Michigan State (6-18-2, 2-8-0-0 Big Ten) at Joe Louis Arena on Friday night (Feb. 5, 7:30 p.m.) as the two teams will play for the newly constructed "Iron D" trophy for the first time. The trophy will be awarded to the winner of the annual "Duel in the D" clash between the Wolverines and Spartans at Joe Louis Arena.

• Michigan has played Michigan State a total of 54 times at Joe Louis Arena, with a 30-19-5 record in those contests, including the last meeting between the two teams at JLA, a 4-1 U-M win in the Big Ten Tournament semifinals last March.
