The tradition at Michigan had always been for a football team to earn a championship ring, it had to win or at least share a Big Ten title.
In 1999, Michigan finished 10-2 overall and finished second in the Big Ten at 6-2. Tom Brady led the Wolverines to a stunning 35-34 overtime victory over Alabama in the Orange Bowl on Jan. 1, 2000, but there was no ring for a season that was completed with that BCS bowl victory.
Until now.
Members of that team will receive Orange Bowl rings from Michigan in a special ceremony Saturday morning, and they will be introduced at the spring game Friday night at Michigan Stadium.
