Wheatley Jr. leaves program, roster notes

Struggling with injuries during his career, Wheatley was sidelined through most of his freshman season, breaking his leg more recently this spring. While Sean McKeon and Zach Gentry are expected to be the top two tight ends this fall, Wheatley could have fit into the mix as blocker in the group, competing with Nick Eubanks to be third on the field in the group.

Wheatley signed with Michigan at the same time as his father joined Harbaugh’s staff as the team’s running back coach. Wheatley Sr. spent only two years back in Ann Arbor, reuniting with Doug Marrone as a member of Jacksonville Jaguar’s staff last fall.
