John Beilein and the Michigan basketball team suffered a blow on the recruiting trail Saturday afternoon, when 5-star point guard D.J. Carton picked Ohio State.
Before his decision, Carton was reportedly leaning toward committing to the Wolverines. He would’ve been the second-highest-rated signee of Beilein’s tenure and been the leading candidate to succeed Zavier Simpson at point guard (Simpson will be a senior during Carton’s freshman year).
His decision leaves Michigan in search of its next commitment for the 2019 class. The Wolverines secured a verbal commitment from 4-star wing Jalen Wilson in May, giving the class a strong foundation.
