ANN ARBOR -- It took a lengthy investigation, lots of internal discussion and input from several members of the university, but a decision was made to reinstate Grant Perry to the football team.
And Michigan athletic director Warde Manuel stands by it.
"Athletics, and this university, takes charges against our student-athletes very seriously," Manuel said Wednesday. "But we're also here to educate young people and to help them through challenges life brings them and challenges they bring to themselves.
"This was one of those cases."
Earlier this month, an Ingham County judge sentenced Perry to 12 months probation and 60 months of community service following an incident last October outside an East Lansing bar.
