Upset alert: No. 14 Michigan trails Northwestern, 17-7, at half

EVANSTON, Ill. -- Michigan did not look good during the first two quarters on Saturday, and it's paying for it on the scoreboard.

The 14th-ranked Wolverines trail Northwestern, 17-7, after a mistake-prone first half Saturday at Ryan Field.

Michigan (3-1, 1-0 Big Ten) totaled just 21 yards of offense in the first quarter, while Northwestern scored on its first two possessions of the game.

The Wildcats marched six plays and 56 yards on their first drive, scoring on a Clayton Thorson 1-yard touchdown run 4:42 into the game. They followed up with a 45-yard field goal from Charlie Kuthbander, taking a 10-0 lead into the second.
