Michigan coach John Beilein underwent successful, scheduled double bypass heart surgery on Monday and is expected to make a full recovery, the school announced on Tuesday.
Beilein is expected to leave the hospital in a few days and hopes to be fully active by the start of the 2018-19 season.
Due to his recovery, Beilein won't be able to attend the team's upcoming trip to Spain on Aug. 17-26. Michigan assistant Saddi Washington will serves as the team's interim head coach, with Luke Yaklich and DeAndre Haynes maintaining their assistant roles.
"I feel grateful and blessed that this surgery was performed at the University of Michigan," Beilein said in a statement.
