Michigan running back Drake Johnson, a former top-ranked high school hurdler from Ann Arbor Pioneer, has joined the UM track and field team as a hurdles specialist, the school announced Wednesday.
Johnson, who has overcome two knee-ligament surgeries during his football career, was a three-time high school track All-American and was ranked No. 1 in the state in the 55-meter hurdles, 60-meter hurdles and 110-meter hurdles.
He can immediately compete, coach Jerry Clayton said in the release, and will balance track with football.
“Drake was an outstanding hurdler in high school, and we are excited to welcome him to the team,” Clayton said.
