In the middle of Michigan's basketball practice on Thursday, John Beilein suddenly dropped to the court.
Hands shoulder-width apart, feet well-balanced on the toes, the U-M coach bounced out a few quick push-ups — the coaches' consequence for players hitting a drill benchmark — and popped back up quickly, overseeing the next task.
It's a regular part of Michigan's practices, and for the fit assistants like LaVall Jordan, who was next to Beilein on the floor, clearly no major task. Yet Beilein ripped them off just as fast, despite having nearly 20 years on his protégé.
Maybe there are a few 62-year-old major college coaches in the country in such great shape, but not many.
