U-M ramps up search for AD, Hackett will step down

It’s been more than a year since the dismissal of Dave Brandon as athletic director, and in that time, interim appointee Jim Hackett has overseen the hiring of Jim Harbaugh, negotiated contract extensions for basketball coaches Kim Barnes Arico and John Beilein, and established a new apparel deal with Nike. But it was announced Wednesday morning that Hackett will not continue in that role permanently.

In previous meetings with the press, the former Steelcase CEO did not have an answer on if he would be interested in a full-time appointment to the position.
