ANN ARBOR -- The University of Michigan earned at least $500,000 from the July 28 soccer match between Manchester United and Liverpool FC at Michigan Stadium, and could make up to more than $1 million.
According to the contract between the university and Relevent Sports, obtained by MLive through the Freedom of Information Act, the organization that hosts the International Champions Cup paid Michigan a guaranteed licensing fee of $500,000 to pit two of the top English Premier League teams against each other on U.S. soil.
Relevent and Michigan shared the gross revenue generated from the match, which Liverpool won 4-1, but total figures have not been released.
