ANN ARBOR -- Michigan hockey coaching legend Red Berenson is headed to the U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame.
Berenson, who guided the Wolverines to 23 NCAA Tournaments, 11 Frozen Four appearances and two national championships (1996, 1998), is one of five members to be inducted in the 2018 class.
The Regina, Saskatchewan native was a former All-American forward at Michigan from 1959-62 before a near two-decade career as a professional hockey player and coach.
He returned to his alma mater in 1984 and reestablished Michigan as a national power.
During his time at Michigan, Berenson's clubs rattled off 22 straight NCAA Tournament appearances (an NCAA record) and qualified for the event in 23 of the past 27 seasons.
