MADRID -- Living 4,000 miles from Ann Arbor, it is not easy for Diego Garcia to see his beloved Michigan Wolverines in person. On Monday, they came to him.
The 20 or so fans at Pabellon Amaya Valdemoro in Madrid to see an exhibition game between Michigan and the Madrid Generales were, for the most part, members of the U-M traveling party. But among the coaches' wives and other guests were a handful of grateful local supporters.
That small group included Garcia, who grew up in Shelby Township, Michigan, and graduated from U-M in 2001. Not feeling optimistic about the local job market, he moved to Madrid -- both of his parents are from Spain -- and has been living there ever since.
