The lone holdover, Greg Mattison hands Michigan defense over to D.J. Durkin

ANN ARBOR -- Back when he was introduced as Michigan's new defensive coordinator in early January, D.J. Durkin gushed, "Reuniting with Jim (Harbaugh) at the University of Michigan is an opportunity that I could not pass up."

At 37 years old, Durkin moved from Florida to U-M, cementing his place as one of the top young coaches in the country. It was an obvious fit. From 2007-09, Durkin worked under Harbaugh as Stanford's defensive ends coach and special teams coordinator.

There was another reunion, though, that's easily overlooked.

In 2003, Durkin moved from Bowling Green to Notre Dame.
