The NBA's developmental league, the G League, announced Thursday a path for top basketball prospects to go straight from high school to the pros.
Beginning with the 2019-20 season, players who are at least 18 years old can join the G League, receiving a "Select Contract" worth $125,000 for the five-month season. The league will determine which players will be offered these contracts.
Since 2006, the NBA has required its players be at least 19 and a year removed from high school. This rule change led to an influx of the "one-and-done" -- players who spent just one year in college before declaring for the NBA draft.
