ANN ARBOR — This doesn't need sap. This doesn't need the soaring emotion of musical accompaniment.
This is a moment; a simple, passing instant when one life meets another and all involved are better for it. Times like this happen often in sports — celebrated athletes making unseen impacts — but the difference here is circumstance.
Toward the end of summer, Jacob Koetje complained that his heart was racing. Jake is 8 and likes things that 8 year olds like. He plays football, baseball and basketball, tumbles around on the beaches of Lake Michigan, and jumps on the trampoline with his brother and friends.
