Announced this afternoon here, former Wolverine goaltender Steve Shields will join Red Berenson's staff as a volunteer assistant working with goalies.
Shields starred for Michigan in the early 90's winning 111 games, earning All-CCHA honors twice and 2nd Team All-American honors twice while helping the team reach two Frozen Fours.
After graduating with a degree in education, Shields burst on to the scene in 1997 for Buffalo. With Sabres netminder Dominik Hasek going down during their 1st round playoff series against Ottawa, Shields helped rally the team past the Senators into the 2nd round against the Flyers.
