Steve Clinkscale will get a raise if Michigan football finishes in top 25 passing defense

Steve Clinkscale will earn $600,000 in his first season as an assistant coach for Michigan football — with the potential to earn more in the second and third year of his contract.

Clinkscale left Kentucky to become the Wolverines' defensive backs coach and passing game coordinator, and according to a memorandum of understanding signed May 12 obtained by the Free Press via the Freedom of Information Act, has plenty of upward mobility.

If Michigan finishes with a top-25 passing defense in 2021, Clinkscale's base salary for Year 2 and Year 3 will increase from $600,000 to $700,000 both years, and he will be promoted to co-defensive coordinator.
