Michigan interim athletic director Jim Hackett plans to step down from his post in the near future, multiple sources confirmed to ESPN.com Tuesday.
Hackett is expected to make a formal announcement at some point in the next week. The Detroit Free Press first reported the athletic department's impending change in leadership. The university has been planning for his departure for the past month, but Hackett wanted to wait until the conclusion of the football team's regular season to make it official.
During his 13 months on the job, Hackett hired new football coach Jim Harbaugh, brokered a record-setting apparel deal with Nike and extended the contract of head basketball coach John Beilein.
