COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- Jim Harbaugh made the call to keep De’Veon Smith home.
His rationale was sound, even if he couldn’t say so entirely after Michigan’s 28-0 win at Maryland on Saturday.
There was no way the Wolverines were going to lose to the Terrapins, and having Smith take a chance on aggravating the problem — whether it’s an ankle as U-M announced last week or something else that Harbaugh clearly has avoided talking about since — wouldn’t be worth the risk.
But there was an added benefit: Harbaugh needed to see what else he had with the other running backs.
