Before the summer, Tyrone Wheatley Jr. sat down with the Michigan football team’s offensive staff, strength staff and nutritionist.
The goal? To figure out a weight range for Wheatley to aim for in off-season training.
As a freshman, the tight end arrived on campus around 290 pounds — closer to what an offensive lineman might’ve weighed.
He shed some of that weight over the next two years, but he wanted to lose even more in preparation for a bigger role in the Wolverines’ offense.
Wheatley, now a redshirt sophomore, is expected to be a factor in Michigan’s pro-style attack this season, with the departure of Jake Butt to the NFL and Devin Asiasi's transfer to UCLA.
