Sierra Romero has accomplished things nobody else has done swinging at a softball.
She collected the top individual honor on Tuesday, winning the 2016 USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year award. Now she’ll spend her final days wearing a Michigan uniform trying to bring a national championship back to Ann Arbor.
No. 2-seed Michigan (51-5) opens against No. 10-seed LSU (50-16) in the NCAA Women’s College World Series at 9:30 p.m. Thursday in Oklahoma City.
This is Romero’s third trip to the World Series. Michigan, which became the first team east of the Mississippi to win the national title in 2005, finished runner-up last year to Florida.
