The Michigan Wolverines have reportedly added a defensive assistant to the coaching staff in the form of former Penn State and Mississippi State defensive coordinator Bob Shoop. Rumors began to circle on social media this morning before multiple outlets confirmed later in the day.
Shoop has coached at Vanderbilt, Penn State, Tennessee and Mississippi State, which was his most recent stop. His 2018 defense at Mississippi State was the No. 1 S&P+ unit in the country. His 2014 defense at Penn State was ranked No. 2 in S&P+, while the 2015 team was ranked 15th.
Shoop’s role is currently unclear, but comes with the Wolverines needing to replace two staff members on defense in the departed Chris Partridge and Anthony Campanile.
