Report: Michigan taps Brian Smith as DBs coach

It was only a week ago that Michigan secondary coach Greg Jackson left for the Dallas Cowboys.

It appears Jim Harbaugh will go to the NFL ranks to fill the vacancy.

Washington Post reporter Master Tesfatsion tweeted that Eagles assistant linebackers coach Brian Smith is expected to fill the opening on Michigan's staff.

Smith's ties are to new U-M defensive coordinator Don Brown, who was the Massachusetts defensive coordinator from 1998-99, when Smith was a player at UMass.

When Brown returned to UMass as the head coach in 2004, he gave Smith his first coaching job, coaching the outside linebackers.
